Another Madrona is about to unfold February 14-17, 2013!

The Mini-Class Schedule is now available at the Madrona website. See the top of the Home Page at There are 28 great classes from many of your favorite teachers.

Registration for the Mini-Classes will begin on Thursday, January 24, 2013 in the afternoon pacific time and continue into the retreat. Please read all the information and instructions carefully as registration for the Mini-Classes is totally separate from regular class registration.

Check the Supply and Homework List for all the regular classes which is also posted at the top of the Madrona website Home Page. Get prepared for Madrona!

Don’t Forget!

  • Regular class registration is still open and classes are available each day. Check the Retreat Regular Class Schedule.
  • The Madrona Market is FREE.  We’ve got an amazing group of vendors – your favorites and many new ones. To see the list, click on the “Yarn and Fiber Marketplace” at the end of the Table of Contents on the left side of the Madrona Home Page.
  • You don’t need to register to enjoy the fun and community at Madrona.  We welcome everyone! Watch the Madrona website for the schedule of clinics and demonstrations, evening events, market hours and join in the fun for FREE.

Current Exhibits

Bellevue –Bellevue Arts Museum’s “BAM Biennial 2012: High Fiber Diet” is open for just one more month. Two SWG members, Polly Adams Sutton and Patti King, have works chosen for the exhibit along with 44 other contemporary artists. Most of the works were created especially for this exhibition. This show will be available through February 24, 2013.  The museum is open Tuesday – Sunday from 10 am to 5 pm. and is free on First Fridays when the hours are 11 am – 8 pm. Admission is $10 for adults and $7 for seniors over 65. The location is 510 Bellevue WayNE. Check online at for complete details.

La Conner – Please remember that The Quilt and Textile Museum will be closed from January 1 through mid-February for extensive interior work. Watch their website for updates on the 2013 exhibit schedule:

Plan Ahead

The RAGS 2013 Wearable Art Show and Gallery event near Tacoma will be open to the public from Friday, March 8, through Sunday, March 10.  All details for attending will be in the next Museums and Gallery update in late February.

ANWG 2013 Conference Opportunities

ANWG’s Fashion Show – Cross Border Inspirations – is now accepting entry submissions. There are 11 categories with two prizes to be awarded in each, resulting in great flexibility and opportunities for creativity. Each individual is limited to 3 entries, with a $10 fee for each. Deadline for submitting entries (forms, fees, photos and swatches) is March 20, 2013. All the details are available on the ANWG conference site:

ANWG 2013 will include a juried show and your contributions are encouraged! The pieces will be professionally displayed in a special gallery. There is plenty of time to create something amazing, and the organizers hope you are thinking of the borders and boundaries theme and how you might interpret them – perhaps by crossing them? The entry form and more information are all posted at The deadline for entries is April 1, 2013.

ANWG is also sponsoring an open show in the Western Gallery during the conference. It’s your opportunity to showcase what you can create with inspiration and fibers. Items can be made with weaving, felting, basketry, bobbin lace, knotting , braiding and plaiting techniques. This is not a juried show so it’s a great chance to share your work. There is however, a limit to exhibit space. The conference website has all the details:   All entries must be received by April 22, 2013.

American Tapestry Alliance – The ATA has an “eKUDOS” website/”newsletter” with detailed information and links to current tapestry exhibits around the world. Those interested can sign up to receive these monthly listings. Go to to connect with this great resource.

Check out the website for the HGA eNewsletter publication and get lots of information from interesting articles and suggestions about exhibits of interest for textile and fiber artists.  Calls for Artists – Shows to Enter

Bellingham – RARE, the second annual Recycled Art and Resource Expo, is inviting artists to participate along with educators, exhibitors, speakers, performers and vendors. Emphasis will be on sharing innovative ideas to recognize the value of using resources creatively. Allied Arts of Whatcom County is the lead organization. The event is scheduled for Saturday, April 20th and Sunday, April 21 in various locations around downtown Bellingham. Get all the details by sending a message to ; the applications are due by February 7th.

HGA – The annual Small Expressions exhibit program is once again accepting entries. This international, juried show highlights a wide variety of fiber techniques all within the size limits of 15” x 15”. Deadline for all submissions from U.S. residents is February 25, 2013. The exhibition will be held in Saint Charles, Illinois from May 31 – September 7, 2013. All the necessary details for participation are on the website:

Seattle – Phinney Wood ArtWalk program (focused on Second Fridays) is seeking submissions from local artists to be added to their Facebook photo album artist database. Businesses on the ArtWalk can then select artists/work from this database and will contact the artists directly. Submissions should be made in the form of photos to be posted on the Facebook album ideally by February 29, although images received later will be posted as time allows. All 2D and 3D visual art is welcomed. More information is available at

Longview – Lower Columbia College has issued a call for submissions for contemporary visual art  (2D and 3D) from Washington and Oregon artists. No fee is involved for submissions; the deadline is March 15, 2013. The detailed prospectus is available by contacting Diane Bartlett, Gallery Director at

Colorado SpringsCO – The Pikes Peak Weavers Guild is seeking entries for a juried art exhibit to be held next summer at the Hagnauer Gallery at the Business of Art Center in Manitou Springs, CO. The exhibit’s theme is to commemorate the 2012 wildfire season, one of the worst in decades for that area. Accepted entries must e hand-woven, hand-dyed or hand-spun and all hand-manipulated fiber techniques are appropriate. The prospectus is available online at  Entry deadline is April 8, 2013.

Indigo Handloom is holding a contest for their Spring 2013 collection of handwoven scarves and encourages everyone’s participation. Appropriate scarves can be from silk, cotton or khadi cotton with a maximum width of 40 inches. The winning scarf will be put into production with the winner to receive three copies. In addition the winner gets 15% of all sales of their scarf from the online store. Any questions can be directed to   updates are posted on their Facebook page.

Burien – The Burien Arts Association Fiber Arts Show proposed for early 2013 has been postponed due to location problems. They still expect to host this exhibit and will welcome applications from SWG members. Specific details are still not yet available; try contacting them via their website if you are interested:

Update regarding ANWG Conference Registration

Update regarding ANWG Conference Registration:

Our 2013 ANWG NW Weavers Conference Registration will open Tuesday, Jan. 8, in the evening, sometime between 6pm and 9pm, Pacific time, for those planning to attend the conference only or to attend the conference and also take a workshop. Workshop Only registration begins on Jan. 15.
Before you register on-line, it is critical that you carefully read the on-line registration instructions that will be posted our website. That information will be available tomorrow evening when we open registration with our Registration Open webpage. The Registration Open webpage will NOT be posted until registration opens.

We will send out a newsletter Tuesday when registration opens with a link to the webpage so that you don’t have to keep checking the website.
