Personal recommendation: If you have some time to spare while dodging raindrops this weekend, definitely stop in to the 10th Fiber Festival from the Schafer Meadows Fiber Arts Guild. This year it is in Elma at the fairgrounds, in the main Exhibit Hall.

The class for new weavers in September is full. We are now looking at February 2016 for the next class.

Students learn how to warp a loom and weave off one or two projects, learning ancillary information along the way.

Classes are limited to 3 minimum and 4 maximum and once you have committed to the class, the fee of $125.00 is non refundable.

Students must be a member of the guild to enroll. Once a member, looms are available for rental during the course from the guild. Costs include the $125.00 for the 3 1/2 day course, spread over 3 weeks. Loom rental is approximately $25.00. The only other expense is the purchase of materials for weaving, which doesn’t cost much.

Handspun yarn; knitted, felted, and handwoven articles; kumihimo jewelry; handmade baskets; tapestries and many, many other items created by our members will be available.

Olympia Weavers Guild display at the Timberland Regional Library, downtown Olympia branch, during November 2014.

If you haven’t had a chance to see the displays at the libraries, please pop in. The display group did a lovely job!
There is a display at both the Olympia Downtown branch and the Tumwater branch of the Timberland Regional Library. The displays will be up through the end of November. After that, some of the items will be available at the Guild’s annual Show & Sale in December.

The 2017 Northwest Weavers Conference sponsored by ANWG will be held in Victoria B.C. on the grounds of the University of Victoria. The dates for the pre conference workshops are June 28th to June 30th. The conference is July 1st and July 2nd.

The Theme “Treadle Lightly ” represents a concern for the environment and having a smaller footprint on the earth.

The Olympia Weavers Guild was invited to demonstrate weaving and related textile skills during Nordic Heritage Day at the Sons of Norway Lodge in Lacey, WA. The demonstration included tapestry, inkle and tablet weaving looms, books and discussion of historical production and uses of textiles. There was also an ongoing demonstration of drop-spinning prepared flax fiber into linen yarn, complete with a distaff tucked into a belt.
